  2. From the EndNote toolbar, click the Citations drop down menu, and select Edit & manage citation(s).
  3. To add page numbers, enter the page numbers in the Pages field (note: page numbers will only appear if the reference style allows it, for example a reference style like APA 6th)
  4. To exclude an author or year from your citation, use the drop down arrow in the Format box (under Edit Citation), and select Exclude Author Exclude Year.

Removing a citation in Word:

  3. Highlight the citation you would like to remove.
  4. Click the dropdown arrow to the right of the citation you want to remove, and select Remove Citation.
  5. Click OK button.

Tips:

  1. Do not use the delete key to remove or delete a citation or reference in Word.
  2. Citations listed in your Word document will NOT be automatically updated when you make changes to references in your EndNote library. To update the citations, use the Bibliography dropdown arrow in your EndNote toolbar.

I half-converted to Macs three years ago, but continued to use a PC desktop until a year ago; and on the PC, the Word default of numbering endnotes with small Roman numerals (i, ii, iii) was easy to fix, so I continued running that fix on the PC. Now I no longer have that crutch, and I've been searching all over my MacBook Pro to find a way to do it, and failing. Obviously I can do it manually: do a cut-and-paste, recreating each endnote with the proper numbering system. But I really want to LEARN how to it right!

Using Endnote In Word

I am experiencing what I believe is a similar problem to kwaisiong's. I use Word 2016 on Mac (Sierra). I only used EndNotes as an add-in in Word. Now I would like to remove EndNotes completely, which I would assume includes stopping EndNotes from loading when launching Word. I have followed all the instructions in this and several other topics. I'm a Mac user and I frequently exchange files with endnotes, and it doesn't always happen. Recently I got a document from a PC user that used 1,2,3 endnotes in the original, but somewhere when I did a Save As it randomly changed to i,ii,iii endnotes. But I've received other documents from this same person without any problems. Word has basic default settings for footnotes and endnotes, but you can adjust these settings at any time from the menu on the References tab. Click the arrow in the lower right corner of the “Footnotes” menu. Add footnotes and endnotes in Word on Mac and iOS. On the View menu, click Print Layout. In your document, click where you want to insert the note reference mark. On the Insert menu, click Footnote. Under Location, click Footnotes or Endnotes, and then on the Footnotes or Endnotes pop-up menu, click.
